What is the Cure for Addiction? The question millions of people desperately want to unravel.

Surprisingly, the answer is so simple yet overlooked.

By the time you read to the end of this series, I bet you, you would have learned exactly how to cure yourself of any kind of addiction.

Before we begin answering the question; what is the cure for addiction- let’s first understand the psychology of addiction.

The Psychology of Addiction-Emotional Imbalance

what is the cure for addiction
A young woman sits alone while three of her colleagues look at her with disdain.

What is the cure for addiction? Well, your ‘substance’ of addiction is never the problem.

It doesn’t matter what you crave or what your addictions are.

Whether you crave and feast on drugs, alcohol, cigarette, Food, frivolous spending, Porn, Social media, sex, club, Television, Money, or games- your addiction is really a tool to satisfy your inner fears, unanswered question, need for love, acceptance, and the quest for certainty.

All these are tools you have instinctively discovered to aid your quest or quench your ‘hunger.

The problem is that your life is fear-driven. And fear leaves you ‘hungry’ and ‘dissatisfied’ with life.

How Do you Explain A Young Girl Who Finds Solace in Food?

In the book; ‘Made to Crave; Satisfying your Deepest Desire with God Not Food’, Lysa tells the story of the beginning of her ‘unconscious’ imprint and addiction to food.

Her father had left them when she was very young.

One day, she came back from school to discover that her father had left them never to come back again.

She never knew the impact of that incident on her mind- until she began to unravel her craving. Her father’s action had left her in a ‘poor’ emotional state.

She said, that unknown to her, she unconsciously concluded that she wasn’t good enough.

If she was good enough, why would her father leave her and her sister for ‘somewhere’ nobody knows about?

Until she discovered the root of her subconscious behavior-the fear and uncertainty- that incident left her in, she could not recover from her food addiction.

The Unusual Theory of Psycho-cybernetics

What is the cure for addiction? Let’s check out this interesting discovery of the mind.

A renowned surgeon who was an expert in helping men and women lose weight through plastic surgeries discovered the theory of psycho cybernetics.

90% of his patients would return back to their old way of life, hence regain their old shape and size irrespective of the plastic surgery done to lift the heavy fat off their belly and life.

As he dug deep into the psychology of human behavior, he discovers an interesting phenomenon about the human mind.

He discovers that our belief, controlled by our emotional state, determines our behavior.

It doesn’t matter what you want or desires physically. To break the addiction- your unconscious emotional state of being, would always drive or determine your actions and results.

What Is The Cure For Addiction? You Smoke For Psychological Reasons

What is the cure for addiction? Well, Let’s unravel some more mental drive behind your actions.

You don’t smoke because you like cigarettes, you smoke because you want certainty or to be respected.

Behind every physical action are deep-seated beliefs and emotional states or drives.

The strongest of these emotions that direct our actions are FEAR & Uncertainty.

Most people are not sure if the world is going to collapse on them the next minute. Some are not sure of the safety of their wealth (future).

While some are constantly bombarded with the idea that they are alone to handle all of life’s messes.

Flip sides with this emotional state of being and we are left with a deep need/craving or hunger for love, respect, and certainty.

If you have enough love for life, a deep assurance and certainty that comes with an understanding of the universe’s care and support for you-You wouldn’t be controlled by any addiction.

What Is The Cure For Addiction? Let’s Figure Out What Keeps You Addicted

what is the cure for addiction? You need to change your old self concept in order to break the pattern of addiction

Dopamine fix.

The next few lines would give us a clearer view of why you are addicted and help you answer the question ‘what is the cure for addiction’?

Like I said earlier, we often look for substances or activities to satisfy our “hunger”.

Unfortunately, this ” hunger” is not a physical one hence, it can never be quenched or satisfied by physical means.

Indulging and over-indulging in any of the above-mentioned behaviors will only keep you in a schizophrenic loop that will eventually lead to your physical, financial, or mental destruction.

What you need is not more social media, not more bottles, not more drugs, not more women, not more partying, porn or clubbing. Not even more money or more books!

You need to heal.

I will show you how. But let me first explain what is happening to you and your brain -why you are hooked on your addictions.

Why Am I Hooked On My Addiction?

Whatever your addictions or destructive habits are, something is actually happening that keeps you wanting it and constantly using it in a bid to satisfy your “hunger”.

Do you know what is happening?

You are getting a little bit of ” satisfaction” or better still ” relief” by indulging in that habit.

Yes, you are getting a good release of dopamine- a (reward) satisfaction hormone.

Yes, poor emotional states, emotional wounds or unsatisfied feelings blocks our natural flow or release of the happiness hormones.

Here is The Physiological Process To Unhappiness;

what is the cure for addiction?Something happens, you can't handle your stress, you spiral into unhappiness and overwhelm.
Organizing your thoughts meditation mindfulness speech bubble ideas.

We are still answering the question; What is the cure for addiction?

Now, when something happens in your life and you find yourself unhappy, there is a process to your unhappiness.

For us to feel unhappy or dissatisfied or displeased, our brain must shut off the stimulation and release of the happiness and satisfaction hormones like dopamine, serotonin, oxytocin, etc. -and stimulate the release of cortisol and other “displeasure” hormones.

for example. You quarrel with your partner, there is an adrenaline rush, anger happens, cortisol is high, serotonin is shut off.

The person whom you feel should apologize comes back and apologizes, cortisol is shut off, serotonin -a pleasure or happiness hormone is released. So you can smile now.

But what happens when the person you feel is wrong does not think he is wrong?

Apologies are not made,  so you remain in a sad emotional state.
This means; dopamine and serotonin are constantly shut off( as you constantly see the person) and cortisol is continually released!

If the body remains in this ‘unhealthy’ psychological environment or state for a long time, it will break down and die.

Either you fall sick or something could just happen because your body is in a constant flight/fight mode (stress mode).

This, your body knows.

Therefore, to protect you from sudden death-because you are in a constant poor emotional state( unhappy emotional environment)- it quickly helps you identify a quick dopamine fix- which becomes your addiction.

So, you engage in something to lift your mood. And as you engage in that behavior dopamine is released.

This quick fix is what keeps you desiring it- because actually, it gives you pleasure;

-A party,

-sex,

-Frivolous spending,

-Drugs, a book, cigarettes, porn, a movie, and the latest and “non-abusive one”- social media, etc.

They are not the problem!

Actually, they are just a symptom- a quick dopamine fix.

You are hungry for Joy and your brain knows how to help you stay aloof.
Otherwise, you die!

The Healing? What Is The Cure For Addiction?

what is the cure for addiction

The healing or cure? Step 1 to answering the question; what is the cure for addiction is-

Step 1. Identify What Ails You (Emotional Intelligence might be The Answer)!

A harsh boss? An unloving husband or wife?

An unfulfilled marriage or dreams?

Hate your job or business?

Financial disturbances or being scorned by friends or family members can make you feel worthless

What ails you?

Get a pen and write down what exactly is going on in your life.
