5 Steps Treatment For Addiction With 99% Proven Success

This post (addiction treatment) is the continuation of my first post titled, what is the cure for addiction?

Please ensure to go read part 1, by clicking on the link above.

So, today, I am going to finish this addiction series. And we will look at 5 cognitive-behavioral approaches to overcoming addiction

Step 1 Treatment for Addiction- Recognize The Main “False’ Emotional Benefits of Your Addiction.

treatment for addiction

We already established this fact in my first series that the first step in treatment for addiction is to look beyond your addiction.

Rather, identify the emotional need or pain that makes you use the substance of your addiction and write it down.

So, what benefits are you trying to derive or do you derive from indulging in your addiction?

What pain are you trying to avoid? what pleasure are you trying to derive? Eg, do you use it to replace boredom, overwhelm or fear of rejection?

Does it make you feel good? Do you suddenly develop confidence and certainty instead of fear and stress after taking the substance?

So, the first step in the treatment of addiction is to identify the reason or why you indulge. Very key.

Also, write down why you do not want to indulge in your addictions anymore.

Treatment for addiction case studies:

You Crave For Love & Certainty Not Drugs, Cigerrete or Food

treatment for addiction

Recognize this fact and you are on your way to recovering from that physical addiction.

So, most experts or therapists would have you focus on the physical substance of abuse or addiction.

But that would never work.

You have to understand the physiological and psychological processes of your addiction.

The truth is, you do not love being hooked on drugs. You don’t like cigarettes. No, you don’t.

You are just using it to fix your deep craving for respect or certainty or to handle emotional stress or overwhelming circumstances.

Treatment for Addiction; (recap) of Why and How you Got Addicted

treatment for addiction

For example, young people who got into addiction often do so for acceptance or respect.

The need for respect and acceptance is the ultimate craving, not cigarettes or drugs.

You are using drugs or cigarettes as a physical tool to satisfy your emotional need and your brain worked so hard to learn and master the tool of your addiction (eg smoking) to satisfy that need.

The need (craving) for love, acceptance, certainty, and or respect is strong enough to master any unhealthy habit as long as it helps you satisfy that need temporarily.

So, The First addiction treatment is to understand that you are not addicted to your physical substance (porn, cigar, drugs, social media), etc.

You are addicted to ‘finding’ love, acceptance, respect, or certainty!

treatment for addiction

Once you have separated the ‘shaft’ from the facts, by identifying what emotional ‘needs’ you are trying to satisfy, you are on your way to recovering from addiction.

Are you good? Great.

So, do not be deceived by your cravings.

You do not love smoking and being high. But you desire the love and respect of others.

And that is okay.

Treatment for Addiction Step 2; Let’s Find Healthier Ways To Satisfy Your Deepest Needs.

treatment for addiction

Now that we understand that the first addiction treatment is recognizing your deepest emotional craving.

Let’s now dive into how to satisfy your deepest emotional needs.

This is so important, that you may have to pay close attention here.

The answer to satisfying your deepest emotional need is finding you.

So, my question is; Who are you, and what makes you happy?

The reason you got addicted in the first place, is because

(1) You do not know who you are.

(2) You haven’t identified what makes you happy.

(3) You were not taught how to handle the challenges of life (Emotional intelligence & Stress management).

(4) You think you are gaining from your addiction -but you are losing a lot more than you gain.

Let’s now begin to look at healthier ways to manage life stressors and challenges.

1. Who Are You? My Self-Discovery Journey (Who Are We Really)?

treatment for addiction

The easy treatment for addiction is discovering who you are as a human being.

The greatest plague of mankind is the ignorance of who we are and what we represent as human beings.

My life took a new dimension when I discovered who I was as a human being.

How did I discover that?

I heard this phrase for the first time from Opray Winfrey ‘I am a Spirit, having a physical experience’.

She went further to say ‘You are not trying to be spiritual because you are already a spiritual being’.

Woo!

To begin the journey of self-discovery, I encourage you to check out these programs from Harveeker the mindvalley.com.

Please go check out the free course by Harv Eker on mastering happiness and life. It would transform your life.

2. Understand A Little About God-You will Overcome Fear & Uncertainty if you do.

Then I read the book Conversations with God by Donald Walsch. My life took a new dimension.

Finally, that deep longing to know who I am and what this whole life JOURNEY IS ALL ABOUT ended.

I felt a peace that comes from knowing that ‘I am never alone.

Hence, realizing that the universe got my back settled the inner fear and uncertainty I have always felt within me.

I encourage you to do the same.

Go pick up that book by Donald Walsh.

You will find an inner peace that only you (not drugs or cigars, porn, or Social media) can satisfy.

Treatment for Addiction Step 3- The Gratitude Therapy (Positive reflections)

treatment for addiction

The next step in treatment for addiction is what I call gratitude therapy.

Yeah. I know you probably have heard about the gratitude thing for a while now.

But, you haven’t used it before right?

Let me tell you this. It works! It worked for me.

I extensively wrote on how I began my journey of transformation here (Part 1 and Part2 ), do well to check it out.

But here is how to recover from addiction using this therapy.

Think about your life right now.

Do you remember anything that happened to you in the past that brought joy to you?

Anything?

Remember how you got that Job, Got healed miraculously? How do you get that help when you least expected it?

‘The universe has always got your back, you just weren’t aware of it!

treatment for addiction

So, remember! I implore you to do this right now with a piece of paper and do it first and the last thing as you wake up and before you go to bed respectively.

As you remind your body of the good things life has brought to you, you heal from the ‘stress response- mode’ you are in.

And as you unfreeze your body and begin to feel good again, you will need less of your ‘dopamine fix’, because, now, you can naturally allow dopamine to flow using ‘gratitude’.

It is scientifically proven! And it works.

Treatment for Addiction Step4; Create A New Vision for Your Life.

treatment for addiction

The next treatment for addiction is to set a new vision for your life.

What benefits would you derive from quitting that addiction? Write it down.

The power of man lies greatly in his use of his thoughts (imagination).

I learned from the books ( conversation with God, also Becoming Supernatural by Joe Dispenza) that we create our reality with our thoughts.

How will your life look like when you quit your addiction?

Think about who you could possibly be without your substance of addiction.

Fall in love with the idea of not being controlled by anything.

Think about the pride and self-respect you could gain by being in total control of your life.

Treatment for Addiction Step5- Become Emotionally Intelligence (Cultivate Resilience).

treatment for addiction

This final step in addiction treatment is more of a stress management approach.

I have learned to be resilient and to stay positive in life.

I welcome failure and I call it good.

Whatever happens in your life, you have the power to give it a positive or negative label.

You are that powerful!

Life does not happen to powerful beings like us. Life happens for us.

We create our realities and you can choose to give a positive meaning to what you are going through right now, or give up and look for a substance to boost your happiness.

It’s all about the power of choice.

Final Tips on Treatment for Addiction

You can be free from your addiction if you can find happiness within.

Your deepest cravings for love, acceptance, respect, and certainty are a sign of unhappiness and inner peace.

Remember this; Nobody should love you more than you love yourself.

Forgive yourself for not knowing better in the past. and let go of the hurt others may have inflicted on you in the past.

Addiction or abuse of substances is a symptom of unhappiness and uncertainty. And happiness comes from learning kindness. Be kind to yourself and others.

Fear and uncertainty disappear when you learn about God and the universe.

Choose to find yourself and dig a little deeper into who or what is it you call God.

At least try to discover if it exists by reading this book -conversation with God.

Supplements: A key step in the treatment of addiction is nutrition.

treatment for addiction

I suggest you get a supplement to cleanse your system and balance your brain chemicals and hormones.

This will quicken your healing process and aid your recovery faster than you could imagine.

Choose positive reflections daily. This is scientifically proven to release dopamine and serotonin into your brain and bring calm into your life.

And above all, imagine a life free of addiction. Feel the thrill and Joy of being absolutely in control of your life!

PS: Addiction treatment is more of a psychological process than a physical approach.

You can learn to deal with rejections, failures, and emotional pains using the steps outlined above.

  2. I intended to compose you the little note just to say thanks a lot once again about the amazing solutions you’ve featured on this page. It’s really pretty open-handed of people like you to make easily just what a number of us would’ve sold for an electronic book to end up making some dough for themselves, primarily now that you might well have tried it if you wanted. The basics as well acted to become great way to fully grasp that someone else have a similar keenness much like mine to know the truth way more with reference to this condition. I think there are thousands of more fun situations in the future for those who read carefully your blog.

  3. I don抰 even know the way I ended up here, but I assumed this put up was once great. I do not recognize who you’re however certainly you’re going to a well-known blogger if you happen to aren’t already 😉 Cheers!

I too am an aspiring blog writer but I’m still new to everything. Do you have any suggestions for first-time blog writers? I’d really appreciate it.

    1. Thanks Fashion style. This is actually my first blog, so I am not yet a pro. But I basically focus on putting up real practical content and solving problems for my reader with my content.

That’s basically my focus for now.

  5. I have been browsing online more than three hours today, yet I never found any interesting article like yours. It抯 pretty worth enough for me. Personally, if all webmasters and bloggers made good content as you did, the net will be a lot more useful than ever before.
