Are you sad, depressed, and uncertain about the events in your life? Are you wondering how to be happy in your life?
Anything can make anyone happy. Like buying new clothes, getting a good job, etc. But these things may not sustain your happiness because they are often temporal.
Learning to stay happy is a skill or rather a habit. It has nothing to do with what you have or do not have-But rather with who you become.
This guide shows you how to be happy in life by forming these life-changing habits
How To Be Happy: Change Your Thoughts.
Here is the first secret on how to be happy; Your thought.
Watch yourself throughout the day and monitor your thoughts 24/7.
When you think angry thoughts, you feel angry or unhappy.
Decide to replace your negative thoughts immediately with a positive empowering one each time you catch yourself thinking negative.
This is the N0.1 secret Personal Development Experts like Tony Robbins, teach to help people discover how to be happy and remain happy daily.
Remember: It must become a daily practice till it becomes a habit.
When you change what you think or believe about a thing, your feelings change as well.
How To Be Happy: Heal Your Pains or ‘Trauma’.
You will continue to seek how to be happy as long as you live in Guilt, shame, hatred, anger, etc. They are all negative energy and pains we carry about in our minds and bodies.
A trauma could literarily mean, having a radically different experience from the ‘ideals’ you hold about life.
Getting into a bad marriage or having issues with your partner- when all you dreamt was a ‘blissful and love-filled partnership’.
Suddenly coming down with an illness or losing a loved one -when all you expected of life is good health and longevity.
You might begin to hate, worry, or feel hurt about life.
In other to be happy, you must learn to completely heal your subconscious mind of its past pains.
Here are a few ways you can do that:
Changing the narrative– Reframe the meaning.
I never knew how to be happy until I started practicing meditation.
During meditation, you come up with kind, reasonable explanations or kind meanings to the events that happened or are happening in your life.
To someone that was raped as a child, the old belief maybe ‘It is because, my parents are careless, or I am just dam unlucky’ or ‘I am just daff’.
You could come up with a different meaning like:
‘It happened not because I am not good enough, but because, I am brave enough to handle it.
Will-power alone or motivation is not enough to help us remain happy amidst rough and ill circumstances.
By simply changing the narrative, we give our intelligent mind and nervous system (which is always eavesdropping on us) a reason to heal and loosen its grip.
You own it to your soul to heal and release you from grief.
How To Be Happy: Practice Gratitude Meditation.
The next habit you must imbibe if you are looking for how to be happy in your life is gratitude.
Can you remember anything in your life that has ever brought you Joy?
Anything? Ahh, now you are thinking.
For some persons reading this article, it will take them one hour to remember anything good that has happened to them in the past.
This is because, your brain has not been trained to capture, retain and appreciate those good things that have happened in your life.
The gratitude practice will change your life.
Take home: Every day, before you drop off to sleep, and first thing in the morning as you wake up.
Make a list of 5 things you are grateful for that day (or in your life-past or present).
Feel the joy you felt when it first happened to you and joy stays in that feeling of joy for some time before going over the next activity.
This will help your body heal and help you stay within the ‘happiness zone’ all day.
You may not only limit it to your meditation time-make it is a conscious hourly practice until it becomes an athematic behavior to recognize the good things that come your way daily.
How to Be happy In life: ‘Guard your Heart’
Many people are looking for how to be happy daily, yet they leave the doors to their ‘heart and mind’ open for all ‘dirty’ waters to flow in.
I am careful of the kind of news I listen to. I try to avoid ‘staying’ on social media all day.
A few days ago, my husband was trying to show me some very ‘unsettling media content’ on social media. I immediately refused to see it.
It is not because I am afraid, it is because I do not open my doors to all things.
Your eyes and your ears are the doors to your heart. The best you can do for your mind is to feed it with ‘healthy information’. As food is, to the body, so is ‘healthy information’ to the soul.
This is how to be happy in your life and remain happy. You become what you see, hear and think.
How To Be happy?: Thrust in The Superior Power of The Universe.
So many people believe that the Universe is against them.
Have you ever found yourself in an uncomfortable situation in the past, but looking around today, you feel grateful for that situation?
You missed a flight only to hear something happened to the plane? You lost your job but you built a successful business.
Jim Rohm was asked by a group of executives what he thinks or envisions the next ten years to be. He said: ‘The next 10 years will be just like the past 10 years.
Wouldn’t it just be more fun to believe that the universe is in your favor and not against you?
How To Be Happy; Practice Forgiveness
One of the easiest ways to live and remain happier life is to master the art of forgiveness.
Forgiveness is a skill anybody can learn and become a master at it.
Unforgiveness usually stems from our childhood experiences.
If as a child, your parents beat you or yell at you each time you do something wrong, you are probably going to learn to do the same to others.
You may find it difficult to forgive because you never really ‘saw’ forgiveness in practice as a child.
We grow into ‘unforgiving’ adults because we were not taught in practice how to forgive.
Mantras-Mind-shifting techniques To Help You Become More forgiving & Happier:
Here are some Mantras (Mind-changing) words you could use while meditating to change your behavior and become more forgiving.
“I forgive myself for (insert what it is you want to forgive )”
“Forgiving someone means I have ‘Strength’ and not weakness”.
” Someone else behavior will not determine my behavior”.
“I can Forgive any offence or hurt no matter how painful”
If you learn to forgive, you will quickly learn to control your anger.
How To Be happy: Pick A Mission
If you are looking for how to be happy in life, finding a mission to call your own is one of the greatest cures for depression or unhappiness.
A mission is what drives many successful happy people you see around.
One of the biggest problems of people is ‘finding their mission’.
However, this is very easy to do.
Look around you. What is the biggest pain in your life right now?
Wouldn’t it be great if you found the solution?
That could just be your mission.
Instead of looking for money, we could begin to look out for opportunities around us presenting themselves as a problem.
This is one of the best ways to fix our money problems as well.
How To Be happy: Read, Travel, Go Inwards.
I am always thrilled by the information found in books.
Recently, I began to delve into the world of psychology and human behavior, and without enrolling in any form of formal education, I have gradually become a master of this field.
I encourage you to do the same. Learning new things helps you remain happier and optimistic because it increases your confidence level.
Learning something new helps your brain release feel-good chemicals like dopamine and serotonin-which brings healing to both your body and mind.
How To Be Happy: Routinely Socialize.
I am a big advocate that we can always find happiness within us, but man wasn’t created to be in isolation.
I have found socializing one of the easiest ways to live happier.
What is your social plan? How do you unwind?
Me, I belong to a religious organization and my unit has created a monthly hang-out event to help us relax, unwind and catch up with happenings.
I find it very relaxing and refreshing.
You could inculcate that into your home or personal life.
Gather two to five of your ‘friends’- people with like minds and set a monthly social event that you will look forward to.
This is a sure way to get your serotonin flowing again.
Again, make it a habit to never show up empty-handed!
Have a Big Goal, But Never Let your Goals have you.
Being clear about your mission here is very key to beating down depression and keeping your happiness juice flowing because it gives you a sense of purpose.
However, a lot of people become so ambitious about their goals, that they get lost trying to fulfill the goal by all means. Goals are meant to give us direction.
Trying to achieve a million dollars in 6months when you have never earned 100,000 dollars may only get you more depressed-especially when you have not formed the habit of achieving your goals in the past.
I advise you set ‘value goals’ first. Like having a sense of mission.
Eg, My mission is to empower people with the skillset and mindset they need to fulfill their potential.
In other to achieve my mission, I knew I must become a different person. So my biggest goal became to transform my life and behavior so I can have something to teach or share with others.
I have financial goals, but instead of pursuing the money, I am working on transforming who will get the money (Me). Because I know that, it wouldn’t be of many benefits learning how to earn a million-dollar if I have not grown to the person that can keep or multiply it.
I hate using willpower to achieve anything in life. I would rather go work on my mindset before setting out to acquire the skillset I need to achieve the set goal.
Whom I become in the process continues to thrill me, as I work towards my big dream.
I do hope this guide has helped you discover how to be happy in your life. Happiness is not something we acquire, otherwise, only wealthy folks would have purchased it all.
It is within the reach of everyone.
However, every suggestion written above are all habits that lead to continued happiness.
It takes time and practice to master a habit or set of habits.
